Also this album took me like a year and a half to finally click but when it clicked it clicked so hard

funnily enough were I working on my own messy instincts I'd say Black Messiah is the one where it sounds like they took in a ton of jimi, sly, clinton etc.
This one feels more singular to me, that one more Historical

"1000 deaths" is as pure a sly stone homage as exists, and is therefore sort of impenetrable in its funk. "the door" is structurally "necessary" for the album maybe but not a favorite. everything else is great, with "the charade" and "another life" as my favorites in a walk. are you referring to "really love"?
