@Wamwig: yes he did, but his tone on that song is so low, that hardly reminds Vallo . Even though, the choice of having Ville Valo on the record may be surprising for some, he (and Anneke btw) actually sung for Danny in some solo shows back then.

Danny and Anneke are like best mates or something.
Funny trivia about Jamie Cavanagh, the bass player: he lives in the Netherlands and speaks fluent Dutch.

I like tracks 2 through 7 the most. Thin Air needs to grow and I just really don't like Get Off/Universal much.

I saw someone ask if any Anathema albums were doom and only saw partial responses.
Crestfallen, Serenades, Pentecost III, and The Silent Enigma are all doom death with Eternity having a strong doom presence, but they weren't really that metal by that point.
New album is really good, btw.
And anyone that says that Alternative 4 is anything short of incredible can kiss my ass.

Alternative 4 is great, but the middle tracks bring it down. It has "Fragile Dreams" on it, though.

Finally listened to this, excellent album. Can get repetitive but the atmosphere is great.
|

to Nagrarok: repetitive is rarely, if ever, a negative quality when it comes to music. many of the best albums of all time such as "the sun that never sets" and "from mars to sirius" are incredibly repetitive albums, but that is far from something negative and is instead something very, very positive.
to altmer: the title track to Alternative 4 is the only track that is even remotely weak on the album. Regret is one of Anathema's best songs, as is Inner Silence. So I'm not sure what you mean by middle tracks, considering the middle is one of the strongest portions of the album, excepting the title track (which is like an 8 in an album of 10s). Alternative 4 is the best Anathema album post-doom era.

Hell yeah. Easily one of their best. Have you ever heard the acoustic version of "Are You There?" on their Hindsight album? That one tops "Dreaming Light".

Nah man, I'll check it out. I wasn't a fan of this band before this album, everything I heard was alright but didn't really stick with me like this does.

Valo pulls off his performance pretty damn well, much better than the internet-only demo of the song that they put out a few years ago. Stellar record, pretty marked improvement for the band imo.

Will end up in my top 5 at least. Superb songwriting containing beautiful melodies. Anathema, are a remarkably talented band.

My top 3 favorite songs by this band are "One Last Goodbye", "Flying" (the Hindsight version of both songs), and "Dreaming Light".
