Why the low(ish) score? This record rips. Easily second-best Mayhem, and honestly I can envision a timeline where this continues to grow on me and I somehow learn to detach myself from the legend and lore of DMDS and I can finally declare [plants flag] ORDO AD CHAO as Mayhem's crowning achievement.

Not yet. But one day. (Seriously tho, this is gr8.)

laughable that the two subsequent albums are ranked higher than this, when they are completely inferior in every way, especially creatively.

I like Esoteric more than this, but it's better than Daemon by a bit imo.

another fascinating album. man their discog is obviously overshadowed by dmds. i have loved each of the 3 past. this one really clicked on second listen when my ears got used to the fact it was recorded underwater. attila is becoming one of my all time favorite vocalists, he is absolutely unhinged on this. so many weird sounds and vocal choices. such a key component and really makes for a one of a kind evil atmosphere. so many great riffs and interesting song structures. love when they slow it down with the more doomy tracks. illuminate eliminate is a behemoth. really like this one, so well put together and a real experience with so much artistic merit. have never heard something quite like this and grand declaration. just entrancing and actually evil sounding.

shoutout hyperion!

Oh yeah Attila is at his best when he's being weird as fuck. This and Esoteric Warfare are awesome.

"man their discog is obviously overshadowed by dmds"

It is for real. Every mayhem album rules. Crazy that they lost their main guitarist/songwriter after their first LP and continued to be so top tier their whole career

And honestly this probably should be bumped to a 5. I put it basically on par with DMDS

yeah wild as any band's story. helps having hellhammer who so obviously blows every other comparable bm drummer out of the water. amazing how good he is. this and grand declaration i look forward to throwing on and just appreciating for years to come.

I dont know if hellhammer is the most fast or technical. I mean he definitely is top tier. But he's just got a unique style and i can tell it's him versus all these dudes are fast as fuck but sound just alike

he has so many cool fills. feels like he has full reign to do whatever. i'm not one who is really enamored by drumming but he just stands out and is more key to the band than other bm drummers.
