@iscarabaid

Thanks man, yeah I urge you to definitely give it another shot.. but don't try to get into it until you're really open to it and in the mood for it. I didn't listen to it for like 7 months after it came out simply because I just felt no response to it and had no desire to keep hearing it. But I reached a point where I felt up to trying it again and that is what really made the difference.. I was a lot more open to it and the initial shock of all the strangeness had kinda sunk in already.. so I was really able to just digest everything a lot better.

BTW.. you're the one that wrote that review for Person Pitch right? Dude, that was such an awesome review... you totally influenced me to get that album and I'm so happy I did. I absolutely love it. It also turned me on to Animal Collective stuff which I didn't think I would be into initially before hearing Person Pitch. Sorry I didn't comment on the review.. I don't have time to post on here too often because I'm really busy with school (I'm taking the MCAT for medical school in like 4 months so I gotta study a lot of the time). It really was a fantastic review and I don't know if I ever would've heard the album if I hadn't read it.. so thanks for that.

@Kubrick: YES. THANK YOU. I too have had a HUGE awakening with the content of this album as of late and I'm pretty much in love with it now. I think at first I was just WANTING it to click so badly that I disappointed myself. I never gave up on it though, because my fanboy faith in Toby was strong, and as such, I was rewarded. There's some masterfully subtle songwriting on this album and the fact that people will take a shit on it because it's not "Choirs" is testament to lack of attention to detail or a general unwillingness to try, which makes me sad. And as silentpotato said, the same thing ALSO goes for "Lambency", but I honestly think I like this album more.

This album grew on me a little from my first listen. The sounds going on in this album are very abstract and the way he sings sounds like he is trying to convey some sort of distress.

@auraasylumwall

Totally agree with you.. everyone will inevitably compare each new Kayo Dot with Choirs and as soon as they realize it doesn't have that sound, it's like a switch flips and they are no longer interested. Choir's is easily the most digestible and inviting Kayo Dot album (i can't believe i just described it as inviting) so people kind of lose interest in his newer albums because they lack that immediacy. I still think Choirs is his crowning achievement to date with Kayo Dot but all of his albums contain the same level of emotion, care, experimentation, and detail... it's too bad most people are too impatient to discover it (i'll admit that was me when i first tried listening to Coyote). I'll give people a break though.. this CD is pretty much as uninviting as an album can be for a first time listener.
