It's a crime WKWC didn't become a hit somehow. Probably my fave song by these guys.

new album isnt that bad tbh. last 3-4 songs kinda drag but Coins, Jellyfish, Masters and Past Lives are all pretty great. id say it's a solid 3.6....right up there with Hummingbird but Gorilla Manor slays both

that new synthy pop sound could make for good things in the future but I feel like with Sunlit Youth they just kinda missed the mark; so little energy, it all feels kind of plastic and forced, the hooks aren't as memorable, I dunno. They lost the charm and organic touch that made this and Hummingbird so great imo

really dig Villainy for some reason though

sounds like an album specifically designed to play at indie festival circlejerks.

Fountains of Youth is pure unbridled festival crowd pleaser

yeah but songs like Jellyfish take advantage of the decrease in energy...it def fails sometimes but id say the highlights are successful because they are a development in sound, not because of their similarities to older Local Native songs. Past Lives and Villainy being the exceptions to the album

i feel like you guys are generalizing too much (other than ash). if ya listen to the album in full a couple times there are def some songs that pop out. some have beautiful melodies as well that thrive in the subtle

I don't outright hate it, but the endearing qualities of this and Hummingbird are dwindled

true yeah this is prob a 4.2ish for me and Sunlit Youth is around a 3.5 so it's quite the drop but it's still good for what it is is all im saying

I'll give it another go but I can't see me returning to it all that much, Hummingbird is all I need

A liiiiittle bit. lol

Been meaning to review more lately anyway, but I've long promised myself not to force reviews out and only do them if I have a well-structured opinion about the thing I'm reviewing and enough support to validate writing it in the first place. I didn't have that about Sunlit Youth before this afternoon, but I've been able to outline it pretty well now, I think.
