this album's true rating in the end is a nice 4, but I had to add the 4.5 just because it's the most fun album I've ever heard.

Gonna check it out anyway.

sidenote - idk if anyone mentioned this, but this band is classified as post-rock. is this accurate? the review didnt give that impression, so i was curious...

i guess you could call it post-rock if you want to but its not really post-rock, at least not your typical explosions in the sky post-rock or anything like that, as its mathy and up tempo, and there are vocals though they almost always come in the form of gang vocals
its difficult to categorize and quite frankly it doesnt matter. theyre pretty unique and its better you just listen to them rather than look for genre cues because whatever you get from those almost certainly wont apply to what this band sounds like.

yeah this is great, have to see how it lasts. I can't imagine this getting any better than a 4, but it seems like the type of thing that might get worse with time

you obviously don't read very well, I said it was bugging me, not that I didn't like it. Further more I do enjoy it, I just had, as I said, heard it all before and I couldn't put my finger on as to why.
That whole situation that Lewis explained would make these guys sound cool -- well yeah that's basically what happened to me. Small, apartment birthday party in Providence, at a RISD house, saw these guys, was awesome.
Didn't know who they were (I was wwaasssteedd) so, when I first heard the album, I was curious as to why the fuck I felt like I had just heard all of this before.
Now I know.
And yes Kir, the Talking Heads came out of the RISD scene, as well as Lightning Bolt, Gang Gang, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Les Savy Fav & Arab on Radar.

k relax Yeti, and it sounds a bit like a more jam oriented version of maps and Atlases, but maybe you have heard something I haven't, because I've never really heard a sound like this. And I never implied that you didn't 'like' it, just the fact that it was 'bugging' you means you were not having fun with it. Jeez.

One of the few bright spots of RISD music scene are the apartment shows, seeing as the venue situation in Prov. has sunk drastically over the past 5 years, most of the times the local acts just take to people's living rooms.
