I doubt it. Summers and Copeland are clearly superior musicians, but they all reigned in their instrumental prowess to write concise reggae/punk/new wave pop-songs.
|
| |
And despite the absence of solos, Summers' fingerprints are all over the songs. He does GREAT textural stuff.
|
| |
He does, but it isn't necessarily obvious. I'd argue that Moving Pictures by Rush wouldn't have been possible without Summers innovation a few years prior with delivery, delay, and tone.
|
| |
For sure. Summers is one of the most understatedly brilliant guitarists of all time. No showboating, just supporting the music in ways that reveal all kinds of interesting things on close inspection but don't distract. And his use of delay is pretty seminal, I think.

I gave this a listen because Every Breath You Take was the jam for me in high school and also for the sake of diversifying my music taste. Absolutely love this, the obvious highlights for me are King of Pain, Synchronicity l, Walking in your Footsteps along with EBYT.

Anyone listen to Andy's new band Circa Zero? Some
pretty good stuff, you can tell a lot of it was
probably planned for a future Police record (he
wrote tons of stuff on their reunion tour). Some
of his best guitar work yet, which is great
considering he's like 70+ years old and still
rocking.
