Go to Amazon and look at what people prefer from The Prodigy(hint: it isn't this album).

Why would I care about what people on Amazon are saying? I only care about my own thoughts on the subject

I was around when music sounded great.

Oh, okay

When you were just getting into music, the recording industry had already started to butcher releases.

1991? Really???

This album in particular was one of the early victims of the loudness war in the late 90s.

Except for the fact that isn't at all

If you had an ear for music you would know that as well, because as soon as you put this album on you can hear the static and distortion, and if you switch to Experience it sounds so much better.

And yet there is no static and distortion on here that wasn't intentional, get better headphones kid

I'd no clue he had commented again, by some of the statements he makes you'd think we should all just stop listening to anything post-2000 and go back to first edition vinyls.

The Loudness War goes back at least 300 years. After the baroque genius Bach whose compositions showed perfect form and displayed virtuosity in all instruments came Beethoven, who was looked at by some to be too loud. When Wagner hit the scene in the romantic era you have enormous orchestras and an insane wall of sound. He was criticized a lot for being just too damn loud.

Fast forward to Mo-Town records in the 60's and you have records being mastered a bit louder than other albums, so the album is louder when it comes on the jukebox. Why? So people pay attention to the album and buy it. Marketing - plain and simple.

Fast forward to 1991. Metallica's Black album is being mastered with a loss of dynamics to increase the volume. Why are they increasing the volume? Marketing - plain and simple. It sold like crazy and cemented Metallica as the biggest heavy metal band. All of those sales means they are doing something right..........right?

So. Out pops Korn's debut album in 1994, then you have Deftones Adrenaline album for example with even more loss of dynamics, and so on and so forth. The Loudness War is in an arms race as one band attempts to 1-up another record in loudness. Why? Marketing - plain and simple.

By the year 2000, almost every band except a few artists that demand that their music not be destroyed like this(Beastie Boys, Bob Dylan, etc) are in a war for volume supremacy. Years go by and nothing improves, in fact it gets much worse. As soon as iPods and portable music players enter the scene end users that don't care about dynamics and sound quality bitch and moan about one song being too low of a volume(but having superior dynamics and sound quality) from the rest of their collection of louder songs(with shit dynamics and distortion). Why? Do I need to say it again?

Well it all changed in 2008. Metallica, being the OG's they were at this type of shit, refused to lose the Loudness War. So they dropped the nuclear bomb of distortion and shit dynamics on everyone's head like a fucking pimp. Deaf Magnetic was dropped and out went sound quality and dynamics along with every poor fucker's hearing right along with the shockwave. Hundreds and thousands of people complained about it, and many remastered versions appeared on the internet as people attempted to polish this turd.

So there you have it. Some bands have woken up after the serious backlash against Deaf Magnetic and have gone back to quality mastering and full dynamics. In this day and age with our state of the art technology there is no sense in this type of approach of making and distributing music.

TLDR; Fuck Metallica for destroying music, Fuck The Prodigy for following, and Fuck you for endorsing it.

PS - I've been true to player shit since 83.

Well I'm MCA with a story to tell
When I rock the crowd I rock the crowd well
And when I get the feeling I feel the feel swell
'Cause when I start to rhyme well I rhyme the rhyme well

I'm saying this album does not sound as good as their first album, either musical genius wise or mastering/production wise. Jericho face rapes every song on this album, nevermind the other jamming tracks on Experience.

If you want a genius electronic dance album that sounds incredible that will make even me get up and dance(and I don't dance), then get Experience.

If you want a great electronic rock album that sounds pretty good that you can sing a long to and space out a bit on, then get The Fat of the Land.

That's my final verdict.

I'm shaking in fear. I think I better be quiet. Witch-King of Angmar is in the house. When I see ShadowReaming's name, then I look at that post count, I can't help but respect the King of the Interweb. I don't even want to look at your profile again. All that darkness might scare my dog here in the room.

I'd give you a dictionary link for the word "kid", but we all know ringwraiths are too cool for school. And we all know they don't put their real age up, because they are, in fact, truly immortal.

Sorry to hear this man, I still love it and in my local scene it is, if anything, underplayed.
