Here's hoping that they drop some of their 'maturity' down a notch.

I think songs like There Are Listed Buildings and Letters From Me To Charlotte are perfect examples of the direction Los Campesinos! should be taking, not song such as Plan A. :/

Lyrically, this album is the best thus far but musically, they've lost some charm and care. Building and progression seems weak also.

This is musically their best in my opinion, by some distance.

Don't get me wrong Knott, the addition of the brass instruments is much appreciated but the lack of silliness, humorous glockenspiel 'dings' plastered through their songs is gone. :/

For me, Romance is Boring was a great record, but one that slipped on making fantastic, awe inspiring epics (such as We Are Beautiful, We Are Doomed) out of such a random ensemble of instruments.

But much as I think WAB/WAD is nearly as good as this (I have it as a 4.5, after all) it was far more homogenous than this is. In Medias Res, Plan A, The Sea Is... are all tracks that just wouldn't have fit on their previous albums. I find this to be schizophrenic and ambitious in a wholly endearing manner.

I know, and aside from Plan A, they are all outstanding tracks (especially in Media Res in terms of lyrics) BUT, all I can say is that Romance is Boring feels more like testing waters for their next LP, not a fully consistent product.

Now don't get me wrong, the track list overall is powerful, with only slight hiccups such as Plan A, I warned You: Do Not Make An Enemy of Me, There Is A Flag. There Is No Wind but still, female vocals have slipped, charm has been dropped, building dropped and though experimental tracks like Coda are much welcome, they don't match up to something like: You'll Need Those Fingers For Crossing.
