Can someone tell me this amazing Kings of Leon line, or do I have to stop being lazy and actually listen to this?

from Mara & Me...
"there are babies with guns beheading their friends
in shopping malls around the world
yet somehow the kings of leon
still have time to write songs about girls
i don't suck much less
at least those dudes have no illusions of angst and hopelessness
and if i claim revolutionary or i give to charity
they'll all know it's a plea for someone like me"

Don't really get all the hatred for 'Crush'd' honestly. I didn't like the chrorus at first but its grown on me in a very similar way 'Shiksa' did on IDOTG with its similarly embaressing chorus. But yeah I really love the end of 'Crush'd' especially when bemis belts out that "one time, beneath the sky..."
His best vocals yet.
'Death for my birthday' and 'she won't follow you' are definitely less enjoyable

Idk, it just seems silly. When I compare this to other pop/punk it's definitely a stand out. But compared to other "classics" (Radiohead, Beatles, Sigur Ros) it just doesn't compare at all. ^Aren't you the guy that said Stay What You Are is your favorite album? If so, you're still cool.

Yes stay what you are is my favorite album. I have a half sleeve devoted soley to nightengale and a chest piece in progress based on my sweet fracture (off through being cool).
This can't touch those two albums.

Pop-punk doesn't seem to value the same things as the "classics," I think, and therefore it's hard to judge these different genres against each other. It would be hard to argue that SA is not up there in their own genre, though, along with Park, Northstar, etc (and obviously Saves the Day in Yotimi's opinion).

Say Anything has how many songs with girls names as titles? And those songs are the ones that suck. Get over it
Purposeful writing awful poetry is another. I'd rather Bemis lost his talent than deliberately forsaken it.
Avirov said it, and this should be the summary for the whole album

Puddles: 3 if I counted correctly? Mara, Molly, and Eloise. and those songs hardly suck. OH PLEASE.

Yeah, I can see what you mean. Although I think IARB and Stay What You Are do appeal to me in the same way as other classics. They're more than just catchy and hooky. You have to read and analyze the lyrics, pay attention to the complexities, etc.

This is my first Say Anything record, and it's great...could never get into them 100% before, but this will probably find it's way on to my top ten of '09.

This album sounds so great....
I think it may grow on me to the point of my favorite SA album....
I can't help but laugh every time at the Debra Messing line....
Max is a genius

Max Bemis you are a lyrical genious you are so right our lives are really important and wwe shouldnt take that for granted love the new album your my favorite band because you speak the truth in so many different ways and your new album expresses how i feel in many ways you inspire me to become a better song writer and musician myself follow me on twitter @Adam_Penhollow

Max, I really dig your new album. I'm usually closed minded enough that the songs need to grab my attention and keep that attention before I listen lyrically, and you do that. You write songs poppy enough to put me in a good mood, and far deep enough to have concrete substance. I'll be honest, it took me a while to realize the genius of In Defense, and now this new album is concise, to the point, and memorable. Thank you immensely for the music you've created and the inspiration you give to all hard working musicians out there to make great music with great lyrics. Also, saw you in Chicago in October, I think it might've been the best show i've ever been to. best of luck. @auxsablerecords

Max Bemis and the rest of Say Anything should give themselves a well earned "pat-on-the-back" for this album. This is hands down their best album so far and is my personal favorite. The topic on this record are ones that i can relate to and i can draw insperation from. Max is one of my heros and really out did himself with this one, well worth the wait!
