After listening over the iTunes previews of the songs, I feel like this album will be better once I get the CD instead downloaded copies of lesser quality.

The pop-up add for this album is annoying as fuck.

The one thing this album is missing is some good bass. The only real noticeable bass is the slap bass in Undisclosed Desires. They really should have used Osaka Jam in one of the songs.

its... ok. i havent finished it yet, nor have i reached the symphonic parts, but it seems to be a hit or miss album that does hit very hard.
i doubt this'll have much replay value. i like undisclosed desires, but the rest of it... meh.
EDIT: ahaha. opener of exogenesis, the entire orchestra's playing arpeggios. nothing really screams muse like that.

Another excellent review dude. Couldn't agree with you more on this one. This is an overblown ego set to music.

I dunno, I like Uprising, Resistance, United States of Eurasia, and MK Ultra. I Belong To You is actually pretty cool, but stretched out by Matt's operatic indulgences. For some reason I LOVE Undisclosed Desires...sort of an extension of the fantastic Map of the Problematique.
HOWEVER, the rest of the album cribs melodies from all sorts of old Muse songs and is generally forgettable. The "symphony" is perhaps the biggest disappointment on here, and I can't understand how anyone likes Unnatural Selection. Piss poor songwriting. Melodies of Thoughts of a Dying Atheist + New Born + Invincible? In one "new" song? With a tacked on slow section?
"This is an overblown ego set to music."

I think some people need to come to grips with the fact that muse will never stick to one sound, so you're never going to get another OoS or Abso. Because unlike many other bands, they're willing to mix things up and experiment. That in itself is a applaudable thing.
I personally believe the album to be a much fuller work the Absolution. Criticize me all you want, but it comes down to what i see as a much more expansive and varied piece of work. Absolution tends to grate after a while, for me.

Black Holes is my favorite Muse album and I think Absolution is overrated. Changing their sound is not the problem with the album, it's the fact that these songs aren't good. When I listen to it I feel like I'm listening to a compilation of unreleased songs with Exogenesis tacked onto the end.
