I am one of the unfortunate few that simply does not get it.

It isn't something you "get" it is supposed to just be poppy fun. Go for a drive and listen to it, it is sublime.
|
| |
Really? That's not the impression it left on me.
I'd hardly consider it poppy or fun...at all.

The beats are pretty poppy and the whole thing is really chilled out. Trust me go for a drive it is my second favourite driving album behind death cab for cutie- transaltanticism

this band is so good
i feel like a lot of groups are afraid to be as simplistic as this

Yea I don't think it would work with a lot of bands. These guys make it sound easy, but it's so hard to make this level of simplicity work as it does here.

I'm listening to this record for the first time in months, and it feels like greeting and old friend whom you've not seen in years; one with whom you can pick up where you last left off, as though no time has passed. This album is fucking incredible. For some reason, it has always reminded me of equal parts Pixies, Joy Division, and Radiohead, though this band is not quite the sum of those parts. They've absorbed their influences very well and managed to wend them into their own sound.

this band was mentioned in a few The Weeknd reviews-primarily with how the songs all embody the album into a singular feel/nocturnal quality....can totally see it.
Album rules-I think simplicity is an easy thing to pull of, however proper sound/tone control and solid song structures that are harder to pull of-because the album has that going for it too. Grizzly Bear and Pedro The Lion come to mind as well
