My only complaint is that they prefered The Mule over Fools

I agree. "Fools" or even "Fireball" would have been damn awesome live picks from the Fireball album.

An MK II live with "Fools" and "Pictures of Home" would probably make my head explode.

Hell yes! Imagine the endless possibilities that would have with the rhythm section, or any of the members for that matter.

Agreed. "Pictures of Home" even has a short bass solo and that's damn rare for Glover, hahaha!

Or When a Blind Man Cries... they could've played so many cool songs, but then there's Blackmore's ego

Yes, it is a shame how such an obvious weakness in a Stratocaster maestro can cause an entire band to miss some good opportunities. It was basically the same with his star pupil Malmsteen about fifteen years later when there were no Marching Out tracks on his live album.

I don't know if not playing certain songs was Blackmore's sole decision but yeah he's quite the character. You can't blame the man though because a lot of Purple's success at the time was due to him.

After releasing Deep Purple, the band was at a bit of dire straits. Lord wanted to infuse more classical stuff whereas Blackmore wanted them to write heavier music. So they decided to release Concerto for Group and Orchestra per Lord's request and In Rock was basically Blackmore's album. A good decision I might add.

For certain. The output of the two virtuosos' ideas proved to be at an ingenious level.

Definitely man. Deep Purple's music is some of the most exciting and creative hard rock ever released.

All the tracks sound way too good on here. No wonder all five Metal Archives reviews for this album are all 100%s.

Gillan's wailing on CiT sounds too fucking real for words.

Blackmore's extended solo on that song is insane.

Indeed! But the same can be said of banshee wails to the audience that progressively yet cleanly become more monsterously high.

Gillan's insane scream in SKoW is the highest point in here

It sure kicks ass how Gillan and hit those kind of notes despite being a baritone.

SotW live >>>>> SotW on studio

Studio version is cool, but in the context of MH I kinda think it's one of the less strong tracks, if not least strong. Here, the song fucking rules beyond words.

Of course it does! It is hard to think of rock vocalists with more range than Mark II Gillan to be honest. He basically sets the standard for baritones everywhere.
