Really great review Rasp, interesting view as well. Ive heard alot of negativity about Drudkh's newest album. I haven't listened to it yet myself.

it was going to be more negative but I decided to cut them some slack - the album was pretty fun to listen to, though it does not have the staying power of earlier albums

I completely agree with you rasp on the new album. Came off as suckage at first and now it's just a nice, easy listen. What pisses me off is how they could go from their best album (I know you don't agree hahaha) to their worst.

*que half the ratings for it to change

Nice work dude, but I really can't justify giving the album above a 6/10. Yeah, their style changed, but that's no excuse for blundering riffs that go absolutely fucking nowhere and just a total lack of inspiration. If anything, I think the album has gotten worse with time. Might drop it to a 2.5.

Your comment about the ratings changing for it is probably going to be true.

this and forgotten legends are my fave Drudkh albums. Blood in our wells is starting to kick in for me now. I can't get into autumn aurora as well though. Oh and i downloaded handful of stars now so ill listen to it soon.

I never could get into Blood in Our Wells. This and Autumn Aurora are great. I actually liked the new album. Didn't really see a huge problem with it. Yeah it's a huge decline from this, but still pretty enjoyable.

Most people seem to think that. I just find it boring compared to this and Autumn Aurora.

I don't see how you think that - as I say in the review, the compositional style hasn't really changed. Admittedly, it's a little less 'tidy' than, say, Microcosmos, and certainly doesn't have that raw aggression of Blood in Our Wells (so to say that it's an inferior release is totally understandable), but to say it's a genuinely 'bad' record despite the fact it's them being them seems (to me) to be unnecessarily harsh. As Karl said, it's a nice and easy listen. Though I won't really be playing it much anymore, I'll definitely go to most of their albums first to get my Drudkh fix.

And Hawks, you're not listening hard enough.

I don't think it's bad at all, it's just not up to their usual standards of quality. Yes, the lack of aggression is disappointing, but I don't think it really takes away from the album. What really gets me is that, when I look back on the album, it appears as one huge blur. I'm hard-pressed to find any moments that approach memorable and the melodies that Drudkh always seem to incorporate into their music aren't as profound or lasting as their previous work.

Yeah, it's an easy listen, which I have absolutely no problem with. When I talk about "style" I meant more in an atmospheric sense than a compositional sense. The "feel" of the album has changed to a more laid-back mood that really throws me off. It's not terrible, but it's not something I will be wanting to listen to in the future.

Exactly. The album has no staying power whatsoever from a band that normally writes nothing but mesmerizing melodies and riffs.
