Olatunji has been added ‘to check’ schedule then - not heard any of the live albums. Stellar list otherwise
|
| |
My dad listened to all of the infamously abrasive Olatunji on a car ride back from NYC listening to my avant-garde college radio station. “It sounded crazy!”
|
| |
I was not in the car but I love imagining it

That's gonna be my next Coltrane jam. I'm trying to work my way through his discog. There's so much great stuff.

Excited for you, Hawks. Coltrane is literally the goat. You have so much to look forward to.

I've got to this (obviously), My Favorite Things, Live at Birdland and Concert in Japan plus the collab with Thelonious Monk. All of them are incredible. This guy is pretty much solely responsible for me wanting to get heavy into jazz.
|
| |
Now this type of jazz is for me. Hard bop and these 50's stuff

It definitely should be.
Regarding John Coltrane himself (seems disrespectful to Alice just to say “Coltrane” tbh). I’m leaving this here, for ref, might’ve missed something…
Om, Meditations, A Love Supreme, Giant Steps, Ascension, Ole, Africa / Brass, Blue Train, Kulu, Interstellar, Sun Ship, Impressions, John Coltrane Quartet, Favourite Things, the Duke Ellington one, the John Hartman one (rough order, just want to see how things might change with time)

I want mr pc playing in my head forever
Also I’m waaaay behind more compared to your John journey
Check the 1962 impulse Coltrane for a surprising dark horse in his discog

I’d probably go
Blue Train > Giant Steps > A Love Supreme > My Favourite Things > Ole > Impulse 1962 > Africa/Brass > Village Vanguard > Ballads > Duke > Lush Life
Only ones I’ve heard so far

I haven’t heard the one you rec’d me tho - nice, will get to it. This guy was an absolute machine, it’s seriously unbelievable how quickly he produced such vast quantities of incredible material
