On top of that shaky structure the technicality and showiness of the writer's review starts to feel like a house of cards.

urgent and tight,
There is no way that I could resist pointing out that...
...that sounds so wrong.
Never liked Mastodon, the vocalist really bugs me.

Didn't much care for the review. The logic for giving it a 2 just wasn't solid enough for me. Whether it's because Greer seems to be too demanding or just overly critical of the lyrics (and the implication that they're exceedingly crucial), or because manbearpig ate my brain, I can't say.
The metal pentagon made me chuckle, though.

...it's difficult to take the whole conceptual backdrop of the album seriously.

Here's where I think the review went awry. Mastodon is just fun.

GreatD, one of my points is that okay, maybe it's just fun. It's not that fun so dock some points there probably only a 3/5 max. But then it sounds like they're trying to be serious at points. If this is serious music then really no more than a 2. If they don't even know the difference between the two and have no control over what they're doing it's pretty much worthless.
I feel like this thread has come 123 posts since I was last here and the most important observation is that my last name rhymes with "queer." People should talk more about the music and not about the review.

This^. I noticed you like "Trophy Scar's Hospital Music for...", I thought I was one of the only ones.

mastodon is the most over rated metal band to date. way over-hyped by rolling stone, which has become the sh*ttiest magazine for music. Mastodon tries too hard to achieve a complex sound when all it sounds like is a bunch of crap and doesn't flow at all whatsoever.

I agree with nebg. The flow kinda blows. 4 factors contributed to my rating: don't dig the songs and vox, the flow of said songs, and the gay style.

I'm on a very low 3.5. I was considering a 3 but there were one or two moments which boost it up for me.

I bet if Toby Driver just so much as shook a tambourine on this album, it would be lyke...at least a 4.5.

You're a fucking moron. Of course you can make assumptions but you don't know for sure you will or won't like a movie etc . Yes you know getting shot isn't fun without trying it, but you don't know that mushrooms are good on pizza innately. And you only know you don't want to eat your feces because you're familiar with feces. The same goes for rape.
There comes a point where, through reading and through hearing the personal accounts of others who have used LSD, I have decided, with absolute certainty, that any pleasure I would obtain through dropping acid is not worth the damage that could be irrevesibly done to my brain.
You don't always have to try something to know you won't like it. With trivial things like pizza toppings and movies, it might be worth trying it anyways, because you put very little at stake, but with more serious things, you should probably go with your instincts. There's really nothing moronic about it. Enjoying a CD more is not worth potential health risks.

Probably not deserving of a 2 within the context of the genre.

Good thing music is released to everybody ever and not just metalheads who don't listen to anything else.
