Tribal, brutal, cultural, banging on about favelas' and things I'd never heard about. This is a classic.

Remember listening to this on my mates top notch stereo when it came out. It was the loudest thing I'd ever heard and it still does something for me everytime I listen to it.

Eh, they delve too deep into the Nu Metal scene here.

It can be argued but for me nu-metal is all about the he said she said and snapbacks. This is completely different. Rattamahatta man.

I used to dislike this record, but revisiting this, it's pretty freakin' awesome. This record though you have to listen to separately from the rest of the Sepultura discog, it's just so drastically different

Im with you Sapient. This is a brutal record and lumbering it in with nu-metal does it a massive diservice like lumbering RATM, Angel Dust, and White Pony with the tag.

agreed hard, man. I think the main reason why people give it the tag of nu-metal is because it was such a drastic departure from their previous records thrashier stylings. IMO this is just as heavy if not heavier than those abums

apparently Bjork is a fan of Sepultura, found an interview from around this era where she says she was wanting to see them

I'm kind of interested to see what's going to happen at Hellfest next summer with Sepultura playing on the Friday and Soulfly subheadlining that same stage on Saturday. Because even know they both have enough material to go without, we all know both bands are going to want to play material from the 1985-1996 era but I don't think fans will be too keen on hearing the same songs played twice in the same weekend.

This was pretty much the album that got me into proper metal rather than hardcore and metalcore.
|

This is hardly 'proper' metal.

Eh anyway back on topic, wonder if the two bands'll meet to divide what old songs they'd be allowed to play. Pretty sure two songs Max would almost certainly lay claim to will be Attitude (cos Dana wrote it) and Troops of Doom (cos it's a pre-Andreas song).
