album slays but i agree with wiz i wish it sounded dirtier
This one got the modern sound right. The blasts on this are immaculate.
The fact that both of these statements ring true warrants this another listen.

That riff that ends the album on Teeth Into Red is so great.

That's the only reason why this is a 3.5 for me.

That's the reason that this is an easy 4 for me.
|

this is easily in the top 3 death metal albums of the past decade, so relistening is definitely warranted

What would you say the other 2 are?
|

i dont have every dm album released in exact order or anything, but it'd be up between albums like:
gorguts from wisdom to hate
immolation close to a world below
arghoslent - hornets of the pogrom
portal - outre
cruciamentum - convocation of crawling chaos
the chasm - farseeing the paranormal abysm
funebrarum - the sleep of morbid dreams
and maybe intestine baalism's banquet in the darkness album
the first two are easily the best here, but immo's album wasnt released in the last decade from now (though you could just put in unholy cult in its place) and gorguts' will at some point this year no longer be in the last decade (or maybe it has, depending on what month it came out)
and portal isn't exactly death metal in a traditional sense, but maybe that's why it deserves the acclaim

I've heard all of those except for Cruciamentum, but it's on my list to listen too.

it's excellent

wouldnt put intestine baalism that high, but yeah this is one of if not the best 'new old school' dm albums.
|

i dont really put IB at the same level as the others, but it's one of my favourites from a few years ago and i think it's quite unique in the way it combines different styles
should spin it again soon

yeah they do the non-faggy melodic stuff really well. i like them more than autumn leaves probably, mainly because autumn leaves' second album is poopy.

I wouldn't go that far but I knowing you and your wisdom, this will most likely click. I just have a hard time getting past the glossy finish of the whole record.

That's a nice list man. I should perhaps try give the chasm another spin though - was bothered by its
melodic sound last time I heard it.
Cruciamentum is awesome =)
|

For some reason, i never bothered with these guys and they are homies of mine.
Guess i should change that in the near future.

Woah Greece? sweet.

I wouldn't really say it's glossy, it's just well-produced. And as good as it sounds, it still has the organic non-artificial sound that is best for death metal. And trust me, this album is probably the biggest thing in the revival of osdm - you could say it got the ball rolling.

yeah i don't know about top 3 but definitely top 10 and very possibly top 5, would have to think about it more to actually place it
