While the production on the debut LP of Swedish folk singer The Tallest Man On Earth (Kristian Matsson) is raw, lo-fi & not exactly immediate, his voice & guitar playing are deceptively melodic. Songs may appear simple, but the vivid, character-filled storytelling transports the listener to another time & place… And the song-writing is often sublime, with rhymes appearing natural & effortless. Most impressively, ‘Shallow Grave’ never sounds like a Swede impersonating someone from America’s south, so any fan of folk should love this half hour. Recommended Tracks: The Gardener, I Won’t Be Found, Where Do My Bluebirds Fly & The Sparrow and the Medicine.
