Your problem?
there are vocal melodies on this album actually

Oh I see. When you like music people don't like or dislike music other people like it makes you a douchebag. Why would you sign up to a website for music discussion if that is your attitude?
I hope you don't think I am arguing with you because I disagree with your opinion. What I don't get is what the hell you were talking about when you said he articulates about "basic substances", because I don't understand what would qualify as a substance that wasn't basic in your mind.

Yeah but they are basic as hell. Not even the biggest fanboy could say there are great melodies on this record.

Okay a good example of this is Nebraska by Bruce Springsteen. This time the song not the album. It's about a guy called Charles Starkweather who killed a spree killer who killed a bunch of people in Nebraska and Wyoming. Rather than just describe events Bruce actually tries to explore the mind of the killer which would be where the depth comes in.

Now obviously there's no audacious metaphors or what have you, it's simple to the point heartfelt stuff cause that is what the Boss is about but the actual meaning behind the song is far more insightful than anything by Aaron Weiss because instead of focusing on literary prowess he focuses on having deep and thoughtful meaning behind his songs. Aaron Weiss does not do this. Okay well he does if you're comparing him to Blink 182 or Anberlin or something like that but that's dumb.

You're not wrong on the first part. I personally can't imagine someone who is passionate about music rating New Surrender over Bitches Brew.

it's as simple as accessibility, for me anyway. i have to be in just the right mood to listen and fully enjoy a musical genius such as Miles Davis, but Anberlin don't have to be musical geniuses for me to like one of their albums more, they simply connect with me on a more emotional level, which is enough for me to enjoy their album New Surrender more than Bitches Brew. After all, for me, and i think for MOST people, emotions are what connect us with music. i'm not assuming, but merely remarking, that you seem to be a fairly emotionless person which is why you might not be able to connect with this album or with a band like Anberlin. Nothing wrong with that, merely an observation that could be completely wrong

Actually, lunch, from what lyrics I've read he most certainly does go deep! Not as deep as Nebraska, but if you're saying that's the minimum standard for deep then there really can't be that many good lyrics in the world for you. I don't want to get involved in the argument, it's ok that you don't like the album that much, but just because the lyrics on here aren't as deep as Nebraska doesn't mean that they aren't deep.
That's all I'm gonna say though, I'm not getting involved in this. This Message Edited On 10.13.08

i see a lot of parallels between moss icon and mewithoutYou, even though they are complete opposites in terms of their beliefs.

well i mean instrumentally it seems that mwY have pretty much expanded on what moss icon did. vocally, the style is sort of just rambling, the best example for moss icon of course being "lyburnum wit's end liberation fly" where its like he's giving a sermon only, he's satirizing religion, whereas Weiss praises God without directly referring to him.

That's probably what stuck out to me most was how similar the vocal styles are to listening to a sermon, i guess idk.

i just ordered this on vinyl today. i don't know if that's going to enhance my enjoyment of it or whatever, but i decided to go for it on vinyl over cd mainly because of the art work. it'll only be my fourth or so vinyl, so that's nice. i've pretty much overplayed this and yet it doesn't get old (especially lyrically). so glad this review introduced me to it.
