Review would be better if you didn't come off like a kid throwing a temper tantrum.

It was lengthy but it takes a lengthy review to rebut something that seems legendary to people around here.
You will find the best criticisms tend to be the ones that are succinct and to the point.
most reviews do that.
This does not mean they should, when a lot of subjective statements are thrown about it screams bias for a lot of reasons (here you obviously want to debunk the status this album has amongst the users on this site). Adopting an objective view seems to be the key to balancing opinion on these things hailed with greatness by a cult fanbase, sure the album doesn't scream classic to me personally but there are undeniable good points about it and I can see where it could appeal to other people.
actually if you go back through this thread, i can. i had several fruitful conversations and also removed my original intro due to criticism. i dont consider a lame joke about me having cauliflower ears "constructive criticism."

it is true. i guess if you just get contributing reviewer you're allowed to pretty much be however mean spirited you want on this site. and i guess in the end that's all of our goal here: to earn the right to pick on other people.

Encmetalhead, Tribestros, and Atavahalen have all used their contributor status to bully noobs. Other than that, most contributors don't abuse it.

You're not in a place to talk about mean spirited based on the tone in your reviews. You tend to come off like a bratty attention starved 13 year old, and just because you write above the level of someone of that age doesn't mean you're any more mature. There are many ways to joke and even demean albums and artists in a negative review but you always seem to be pushing as hard as you can to ride on the "edge" of things.

i'm not really criticizing anyone for having a mean tone. it was really more of a totally irrelevant observation that probably didn't need to be posted at all.

I understand your opinions carry more weight, but rating this a 5 is just ridiculous. that's pretty much a 4.5 without flaws or with real historical/ambitious significance and how the fuck can you say this is that in its first 6 months of existence... (especially when you've acknowledged the lyrics and concepts aren't perfect)
I mean yes ilmts is egotistical as fuck and his reviews feel way too provoked. but his actual opinion makes more sense sort of

Oh I know. It wasn't as much a criticism as it was an observation. Sorry.

Also, if you had reservations about submitting this and were only provoked to do so after the advent of a negative review contest, chances are that says more about your review than any comment from an "elitist" or "fanboy" ever could.

(especially when you've acknowledged the lyrics and concepts aren't perfect) Some albums just speak to you even the first time you hear it, and it carries over into every other listen, and an album can be classic despite its flaws, sometimes the flaws even contribute to the eventual score.

In lieu of the "misogynistic" lyrics, right because Genghis Khan and the time period he was talking about were all rainbows and little fluffy bunny rabbits.

how is rating this a 5 ridiculous when i've listened to it over 100 times. the reviewer might think this has no replay value, but i had it on repeat for months. and the thing is, someone could download 'kezia' and listen to it as much as i have and say its a 5 and you wouldn't criticize them just because kezia's been around for a few years? seriously, shut the hell up dude.

Sometimes what is seen as imperfection can give an album it's character to another person.
