I really like this album, and Californiation, but I'm not so much a fan of their earlier releases. This is probably a bit more consistent though.
That's exactly how I feel. Their earlier stuff (1984-88) really sucked. This is the kind of RHCP I love. And this album is not exception. So many great moments, but sometimes can be too simple or repetitious. A really strong album, though.

i prefer their early stuff more, californication can get old really fast as can by the way and stadium arcadium.

It's Flamingo Style, spanish pick work.
Flamingo. I believe you are thinking of "flamenco."
Where the hell did he say flamingo?

has anyone else ever explored the possibility that dani is on the cover?

Personally I'm stuck between this and Blood Sugar Sex Magik as my favorite Red Hot Chili Peppers. Its strange because whilst one is complete funk, the other is their more mature sound, and I can't decide which I like better. As long as it's RHCP, you can't go wrong I guess! Great review by the way, though personally I love all of the songs, including Throw Away Your Television!

It's a really good album, you just gotta accept that the Chilis' are making different kinds of music on each album; Find the type you like and try to use that album/songs to make your way into the other albums you have difficulties getting!

I don't particularly care for this album, it's probably my third least favorite from the chilis (it's better than their debut and FReaky Styley)
I love Can't sTop though, it's my second favorite chilis song of all time, it's just that the album doesn't have too much that stands out after that other than 4 or 5 other tracks.

I haven't gotten this album yet. The title track is cool though. That's all I've heard.

After listening to the horrible let-down called Stadium Arcadium, I suddenly find myself loving this album.
And stop comparing every chili album to one another. It's like comparing a root canal to food poisoning: nobody has a decent analysis.

So my rating goes up because this is more of a summer album than anything.
