After listening to this again, I have bumped the rating up to 4.5. The piano at the end of "The Leper Affinity" is a great touch.

My favorite Opeth Album, The Leper Affinity is my favorite track.

I'll have to second that statement. The part in Leper Affinity from about 2:00 to 4:00 is one of the greatest parts ever written in any metal song.

This album is amazing but it only gets a 4.5 due to The Funeral Portrait.

I still can't decide whether I like The Leper Affinity or Bleak more...each has something different. LA has that unrelenting heaviness, and a nice mellow clean part, while Bleak has some absolutely awesome riffs, the second best vocals on the album, and the best non-growled part. Each is a masterpiece in its own right.
Still Day Beneath The Sun I find highly underrated. Tis a really awesome track.

Words cannot express how much ass The Leper Affinity kicks.

This was my first Opeth album (just recently got it based on recommendations here). It's such an amazing cd. They pull off the two extremes of brutal and beautiful music great. I love the range of the vocals too.

I'll agree with Thor on "The Leper Affinity".

That it's the best metal song ever created? That's a true statement right there.
Recently I've really been digging the title track, though. I love the really heavy riffs right after the long clean section. They're so heavy and fun to headbang to. What an epic track.

I would completely disagree with you (the reviewer) on Dirge For November. It's one of the most beautiful, but evil sounding songs I've ever heard.
Great review, great album, great stuff.

I don't think that Dirge For November is bad. I actually think it's pretty good, but it just doesn't get as many plays as all of the other songs on the album do.
The Leper Affinity obviously gets the most, followed by the almighty Bleak. Those were the two songs that got me into the band and still remain to be my favorites.

Yeah Bleak is amazing, but I like Patterns in the Ivy II as the best acoustic song.
