i dunno my opinion of this was always A Fine Day to Die and the title track were head and shoulders above anything else

well wouldn't you know that I downloaded the discog last week. Haven't listened to much outside of the first two so now's my chance
Skip Requiem, Destroyer of Worlds, and ESPECIALLY Octagon as they kind of suck (well, Octagon is fucking terrible). Blood on Ice and the Nordland albums are great, though.

Extreme metal as such is about aggressive expression. Octagon is basically the embodiment of that
thesis and yet ironically most people dismiss it as horrible and disgusting. Each to his own I suppose
but I've always regarded Octagon as a bit misunderstood. The songs aren't really all that bad
either but I suppose that just comes with the horn effect.

"i dunno my opinion of this was always A Fine Day to Die and the title track were head and shoulders above anything else"
then you're missing out on some seriously hard thrash my friend
|
| |
the intro to this album kills
|
| |
probably the hardest thrash ever
|
| |
isn't it considered more black metal than thrash? either way so fucking good
|
| |
best bm i've heard then
|
| |
nah it thrashes hard as fuck
|
| |
i dont give a fuck what its "considered"
|
| |
definitely black metal elements though too and not just in the vocals
|
| |
oh im not arguing that at all, black thrash is still thrash

but isn't first wave bm still bm?
|

you guys are missing the point, besides in the 80s things were far less classified, some people even referred to this and UTSOTBM as death metal, terms were much more interchangeable back then. let the music speak for itself, don't let a genre tag think for you
that being said, bathory's first 3 albums imo have much more black metal feeling than this and the next 2 hardly contain any traces of it

I judge this based on how much I like it, which is a lot. I'm just curious what things are usually classified as. but yeah I can feel the thrash in it
