Nice! These Anneke albums are all growers in my opinion. They open up slowly, gradually climbing higher and higher up the ranks. At least that's how it went for me. After spending almost two decades with Planet? I still think it's my fave ever record.
They've just got this spark or something, I don't know, it's hard to put into words.
Anyway, it's great to have a new The Gathering thread bumper, makes me happy Dave!

T/t is among the best TG tracks, which says A LOT.

Ngl, you're like the hypest person on this site lol cool, and yeh i'm really into this band lately, doing a slow and patient discog run, so far i can't decide between Plantet and If Then Else as my favorite, they both sound like 5's to me

Good to see the Gathering getting some love
The entire 1995-2003 period is phenomenal
Souvenirs is my favorite. Such evocative, unsettling atmosphere on that one

Agreed with all of that except for not including Home in your phenomenal period. It's one of their best, and stands proudly next to Souvenirs and How To Measure A Planet? as far as I'm concerned.

[2] yup, Home + Souvenirs + Planet is their golden trinity, and then this + If_Then + Disclosure is the backup trio that seals the deal

And makes for an unbelievably great 6 record stretch. Although I would definitely include Mandylion in it too.
...Oh wait I'm totally skipping over The West Pole haha, not a six record stretch then.

Oh man, they actually fell off pretty hard for me with Home. Haven’t listened to in years admittedly, but I remember a lot of it dragging and feeling like they were just unenthusiastically going through the motions. Compounded with the snooze fest Agua de Annique album the following year, and I decided not to venture any further.
For my tastes, A Life All Mine is their perfect swan song.

relisten to Home, a load of their best songwriting on that one (though a couple of their clearest duds also)
can we have a day where we all listen to nothing but this and Wildhoney back to back forever plz

Very awesome album, a huge amount of crossover appeal with this imo. Currently jamming the Gathering from Moonlight Archer onwards, just hit the Earth is my Witness

I've been interested in that album since you mentioned its similarities to TG, never found the right mood to check it though.
And that sounds like a great journey, might do it too actually. Such a lovely progression with some big leaps and some small adjustments. But I'm on an Underworld binge currently and I don't think that'll end soon.

Not a Mandylion fan Johnny?

Really digging the overall vibe of this album, easy 4 at first listen
