haha. itwasthatwas, dude, it's not melodic death at all. it's got the same melodic influence as melodeath does(namely, Maiden), but the rest of it is distinct.
just in case you're asking an honest question, some of the basic difference between death & black metal are -
black metal repeats the same riff over and over a billion times per song. death metal tends to be much more technical and random.
black metal's primary (guitar) feature is tremolo picking. death metal, apart from palm muting, uses pretty standard techniques on guitar, but it uses them in much more complex ways(i.e., technical and random, again)
black metal makes epic songs, death metal makes groovy songs
black metal vocalists (tend to) shriek, death metal vocalists (tend to) growl
there's more, but those are some basic elemental differences
on the other hand, if you're just being a smartass - suck it
The Somberlain (song) is Dissection's best song but the rest of the album is nowhere near as good. This one is more consistent throughout.
I disagree. I think that The Somberlain as an album is miles ahead of Storm.

I've yet to hear The Somberlain. Is it at all similar to this?
|
| |
Yeah, it's quite similar. It has a slightly different sound to it, perhaps a little rawer than Storm, but that's pushing it. You should definitly get it if you like Storm, I'd be safe in saying most Dissection fans think both of them are just as good as each other.

In my humble opinion;
its a Classic Metal Album. thats all.

I'd say The Somberlain is better, but they both kick ass. To bad the band (mostly Jon) went out with an album like Reinkaos.
|
| |
Reinkoas was a kick ass melo-death album. It only gets so much hate cause the band changed their style

I like melodic death metal and all, but Reinkaos is just really flat and boring.

I agree. Im not saying its bad because they changed their style at all. I like Melodic Death Metal, but it was a boring album.
|
| |
My bad..it just seems to me that alot of people are biased against it for not being melo-black metal like their earlier albums.
I still think its a great album though

No im fine with the direction they took, but its a little bit boring. And i shouldn't have said its a bad album because its not all that bad. Just not good. I wish that they could make another album, but we all know thats not possible now.

The drumming in this album is really underrated. This album has some of the best bass drum and tom work I've heard. Lots of creative fills.
|
| |
It's decent, at best. Wouldn't say it's smashtacularastic.

Yeah its nothing special.

I really like the drumming on this. Its a shame they switched drummers on Reinkaos

Its also a shame that Reinkaos is nothing compared to their first 2 albums. Even though Reinkaos really isnt bad if you're not expecting a Black Metal album.
|
| |
I enjoy Reinkaos(as mentionned earlier) but the constant use of those loud cymbals gets annoying sometimes

Its just sad to know that they didnt go out with a great album, like the this and The Somberlain.
