The review didn't posit any real weight in your criticisms. The musicianship alone is extremely impressive, and I think the album as a whole slays, especially compared to 90% of today's metal acts.

I don't think BTBAM presents anything in a super-serious manner anyways. Combining such ridiculous genres together in any given song state exactly the obvious, that they DO have a penchant for hilarious musical absurdities, and they make it work pretty cohesively.

All you guys who complain about this band not being cohesive should probably stop listening to progressive music. I've sorta noticed a 'non-cohesive' element in most of it.

Just thought I'd inform you about that.

Progressive and non-cohesive don't go together. I don't think you understand the meaning of cohesive.

You want cohesive progressive? Listen to Mastodon, or Opeth, or Rush, or even Dying Fetus.

Don't get me wrong, I think BTBAM are outstanding musicians, and even fairly decent writers of the rockin' riff... but MOST progressive music treads the thin line of inventive and pretenious IMO. And while I loved The Silent Circus and really liked Alaska the last two albums have definately crossed that line over into pretenious show-offism.

Save Rush and some Opeth there's nothing progressive about these bands, especially Dying Fetus.

Dying Fetus fucking sucks.

Have you heard them?

Yes, and their new album is a boring self-indulgent snoozefest.

Maybe, but that doesn't mean it can't be labeled progressive.

Progressive does not necessarily equal good.

Definition: Progressive metal is a sub-genre of heavy metal music which blends the powerful, guitar-driven sound of metal with the complex compositional structures, odd time signatures, and intricate instrumental playing of progressive rock.

I didn't like Blood Mountain either, but you can't convince me that it doesn't fit that description.

And Leviathon was a CONCEPT ALBUM - ala' Rush

Concept albums don't make you progressive.

I guess I'm alone in thinking that Mastodon is progressive metal...funny how I always see them lumped in that genre...

Has more weight than playing the minority card for the sake of argument.

Dude progressive metal is a stupid tag in the first place. Its like "hey this is what metal is but since they wank out more than usual lets call it progressive."

Then why are you arguing?
