Sound of Truth is a pretty good song, probably the stand out

From what I gather, a good number of people either aren't digging the transition and diversity brought about by AOBU, or really aren't into the group to begin with, haha.

I'm going to have to nestle in with TWE and the minority who just admire the progression into new territory AILD has taken. Apart from the songs that blaze along quite relentlessly (Comfort Betrays, Within Destruction, Wrath Upon Ourselves etc.) as well as the mid-paced I Never Wanted, I really like how this album has an anthemic feel to it as well (ie. Bury Us All). And all the while, still maintaining their ground.

But hey, that's just my reasoning for the 4.

I like the direction they are moving, I just think they aren't exactly where they could be yet. Maybe next album will move more into my area of taste...who knows...

EDIT: I've actually just bumped it up to a 3 as I am listening through it again. I didn't enjoy Nothing Left the first few times but it's actually quite a good song. Also, Within Destruction is excellent. I'm really not feeling the clean bit in Forsaken. It ruins the song, IMO.This Message Edited On 08.21.07

ugh I don't care much for Nothing Left, Forsaken has a good jaunty riff towards the middle

The Sound of Truth anyone? Am I the only one other then kalkal that thinks that is one of the best songs the band has ever written?

Wow...AILD, Dream Theater and august burns red as the releases of the year? Haha. I'd say The Kidcrash and The Pax Cecilia for starters.

No.

Symphony X's album completely destructifies Systematic Chaos. And, besides the first track, Messengers blew.

Ehh, I think I may enjoy "Systematic Chaos" a little more than "Paradise Lost" actually, it really grows on you, while PL grew off of me.

I havent throroughly listened to the album (won't now either, listening to "Piece of Mind right now") and i'll probably wait till it comes out. I don't like when full albums are streamed, i don't really know why, but i usually don't listen to the full stream.

As I Lay Dying is a band you know will never let you down and I love them for it. Even though some songs have a thrashy feel, I'm still really impressed. It seems the experimented a little and showed off the musical talent more. Could be album of the year...has some competition. But other than TBDM and BTBAM...there isnt much i can think of.

Uuuuhhh...After Forever's selftitled album? Hope by Swallow The Sun? Both are miles better than anything mentioned here so far.

Experimented? Showed off their musical talent? Album of the year? I beg to differ-zhnitt. There's a difference between showing off musical talent through experimenting, and unnecessary wankery. In the first place, i did not see any experimenting on this album, besides bending the genre, it's basically the same old generic stuff but just more brutal/straightforward. Besides the thrash song, which is just stepping up their influences, there's no experimenting.

I don't know about aild and all this metalcore garbage but the best record of this year is still Fiction by Dark Tranquillity.

I would have to say Planet of Ice by Minus the Bear or Year Zero by Nine Inch Nails.

the red chord, dark tranquility, pig destroyer, behemoth, just to name a few...btbam might take it.

No way is this in the running though.
