This is my favorite Stones album. Even though I have sticky fingers, beggars banquet, and let it bleed 5'd. It's a tough decision

We had to get to 2017 to see a Stones album with 1000 or more votes. Let's hope it's not the last one.
I tell you this, if this band had "tragically" stopped after 1972 or Taylor's departure, their reputation as a whole would be unassailable.

You're probably right doc, but even I still find some quality afterwards. It's the Stones they're already unassailable in my mind; at least for the most part y'know?

yeah i definitely see your point ;) plus, I also find quality music post 72/Taylor and, personally, it's a good thing they stayed together.
I'm talking a bit generally here -from the perspective of the general public: if they had died/disbanded/whatever after that time period, they wouldn't be seen as old farts/dinosaurs/whatever in the eyes of the younger generation. i mean, it's the 20th century, you're 13 years old. you're just starting to get into rock music.
on the one hand, you have led zeppelin and the beatles, with their "cinematic" mythology and the generally high-quality discographies. the pictures of them as a band portray them young and vibrant and this is your permanent idea of them.
on the other hand, you have old, wrinkled grandpas delivering watered down concerts without the spark and energy of their old days. their discography is looong and has quite a few missteps in its later years. add to this the fact that the critics don't love them that much anymore.
who is going to be more "hip" with younger crowds? the mythic rock n roll gods or the wrinkly old bastards?
sorry for the long winded post :P

Oh no, I hear ya Jimmy trust me, no need to apologize! Well said and I couldn't agree more. I'm not sure how the younger generation would perceive the Stone's legacy when you add that to the fact. Because you're right Zeppelin, and the Beatles stopped at the right time and it leaves you wondering that one question.. could they have have made another classic so-to speak because they didn't really have quite the same miss-steps yet and they were young. So in a way it preserves the legacy like you were saying. With the Stones we had to fully endure the 80's and I'm sure you remember! ha ha. Y'know I really don't know if younger kids are even into the Stones nowadays.. one can only hope good music will always be preserved and remembered regardless though, eh?

Absolutely! Good music should always be remembered no matter what "legacy problems" a band should have.

Agreed Jimmy. It's been one hell of a musical journey. First heard the Stones when I was a youngin from my folks in the 70's and still love it to this day. Legacy issues aside I hope kids can look past that because they're in for a ride. So many great records .. Beatles, Stones, Zeppelin .. all top dogs.
