I was talking with a guy who knows Mikko Aspa and he sort of confirmed the theories that Aspa just visits Deathspell Omega but that it's absolutely not his band. ''He's basically just visiting it'' the guy said. He's an older guy who is into the Finnish metal scene. He's known Aspa for over 20 years.

Interesting to have these theories confirmed. And it makes me wonder who is in control of the band back in France.

By the way if anybody is interested the guy has a small-ish YouTube channel where he reviews albums and does interviews. Look up 'Rauta' on YouTube.

If I were a religious man, I would bless myself three times after looking at this cover

Listened for the first time today and I love this quite a bit so far. Significantly less hectic than their more recent work but still crazy enough to stand out. Although I agree it's too long some of that effect is offset with the Prayers etc which help pace it a bit.

"If only the rest of the album wasn't a colossal bore."
you give this a 2.5 but Fas a 4? Are the same 'boring' parts not present on both records?

Can't wait for the new album to come out. Only a few days now. It's about the same length as Fas and Paracletus. And we haven't had a full-length since Paracletus.

@Wretched: that’s a bizarre take, this has a lot more in the way of superfluous and unnecessarily meandering material compared with ‘Fas’. Even if you disagree with that general point, it should be quite apparent how someone else may feel that way, especially given the length of this one.

Have never listened to this band, but just coming in here to say that the fact that their first two albums don't have reviews, no matter how bad they are, is a shame.

Here's an excellent example of how artwork fits with music perfectly.

I just wanted to jump on and tell everyone that "First Prayer" still is the creepiest intro track ever.

For me only third prayer forward its a near 5...Carnal Malefactor is simply amazing and I can only imagine if those melodic leads were not this much buried.

Listening to Drink The Devil's Blood and thinking *gasp do I actually really like a DSO song now?*

Good stuff.
