Man my band is playing a show the same night Take Action is coming here. So I'm a bit bummed I can't go see the show but at the same time glad it's for a good reason.

One of the better bands coming out of a stale metalcore genre.

I think this is exactly as good as Thrill Seeker. I haven't listened to this that much though, tbh

they both have their strong-suits.
Messengers is definitely heavier and has slightly better vocals, but some of the songs drag on a bit.
Thrill Seeker is the opposite (less heavy, but tighter and more "spoken" style vocals which are good)

Too much china.... i think a cowbell would sound better lol. I like this although a lot of the songs are a confusing breakdown. This Message Edited On 03.24.08

The confusing breakdown aspect is what I like about this band, tbh.
|

yeah, the off tempo, wierd timed breakdowns are definitely a signature sound of this band.

Great release. I wasn't quite expecting an album this good, especially after Thrill seeker, which imo was amazing. They have the same style but change enough for it to be fresh to listen too. I love the heaviness. One of the few bands with there own sound.

The breakdowns are too overdone. they needed to slow some of them down........SLOWER IS HEAVIER

Good Review. I think that the drumming is awefull. The china, rides, symbols and what have you are overused and distract the listener from the great riffs, vocals and the double bass, which is well done throughout the album. Overall decent album but the overuse of symbols just kill it. What happened to the hi-hat or the cow bell?

I loved this cd for about a week. Then I realized they actually only wrote one song and then played it 11 different ways.

It's not like the supposedly amazing Converge don't do that either.
|
| |
Yeah, that's very true. But it begs the question, why doesn't August Burns Red have the immense following and street cred that Converge does?
Is it because they haven't been around for as long as Converge? Is it because they didn't play a pivotal role in the shaping and definition of the genre like Converge has done?

The production is very high pitched and kind of hurts to listen to with headphones on. I think the drums here are good but the sound of them makes me want to cry in pain. Maybe that's what they were going for..

To Tacos, it's probably the latter
I have no idea what everyone hates about the drums. Matt's the best drummer in metalcore to me, no question.

I have no idea what everyone hates about the drums. For plenty of people the excessive use of splash and china. Despite that towards the end of the record it can get tiresome, I still find it to be a distinct and identifying feature of Matt's drumming. But as they say one's trash is another one's treasure. Still a very talented band who has not blown up as much as I expected them to. I definitely think they should be spending the whole summer on Warped Tour instead of just three weeks.

the drumming is really good and brings a very unique style to the table. and his cymbal use shouldnt really be called excessive, its just that on this cd they mastered the cymbals high so you can actually hear them rather than keep them in the background or have them wash over the other instruments.
i guess its a hate/love thing.
thrill seeker is more fun, messengers is more fightin

I love the drums just not the SOUND of the drums....
|

Very clicky bass drums, piercing cymbals, high pitched china, overproduced toms.....
