This is gonna require more jams. I kinda like it, but it definitely isn't blowing me away by any means.

I love this band and album but I’ve tried to recommend them to people in the past and several of them handed me back my CD of manic compression and shook their heads. I think Schreifels kinda has that Page Hamilton thing where he’s an amazing songwriter but the way he sings doesn’t always grab people.
The stuff he did with Rival Schools was more accessible and I sometimes tell people to start there and work their way back to Quicksand.

The vocals are definitely a weak point for me. A lot of the instrumentation is cool, but yeah, not much is grabbing me outside of the occasional riff.

huh I don't know... like I said on previous page somewhere, I heard the person running the shop playing this in a record store one time and liked it so much just from that brief impression that I went up to them and had them tell me who we were listening to, which must be saying something given the antisocial interaction-avoiding person that I am

Vocals are fine just not a ton of standout tracks imo

I mean the vocals worked for me lol I loved this band the moment I heard Landmine Spring. I’ve just had bad luck trying to introduce other people to them in the past and figured that might be why

The vocals aren't terrible by any means, just a tad uneventful and dry imo.

In a way I get it. I think a lot of people try to compare the older post-hardcore bands to the 2000’s generation which are both veeeery different, the latter being far more metalcore and alternative influenced.
I got into bands like Quicksand because they had members of 80’s hardcore bands I liked and it was fascinating to me to hear how the sound evolved over time.
