I had this at 4.5 but I'm gonna go back through CC's discography and re-rate everything. I remember when I was first getting into extreme metal this was my shit but it's been over a decade since I've really sat and jammed an entire Fisher era album. Listening to this again for the first time in ages though and man Devoured By Vermin is one hell of an opener track. Remember Orgasm Through Torture being my favorite back in the day. On Bloodlands right now and I love it when they low down and get into that groovy gallop

think this is their third best nowadays after the bleeding and bloodthirst, might pip bloodthirst but idk yet. some really cool tempo shifts and some of their best riffs. only weakness is the relative thin guitar tone compared to later albums

Need to revisit Bloodthirst again. This one is a banger though. Might be my favorite of the Fisher era albums. You're not wrong about the tone though

I might be the one making the hot take, but this kind of blows out of the water anything previously done with Barnes

The more I listen to this since I've thrown it back in rotation I like it more and more. The Bleeding is so damn nostalgic for me I'd have a hard time putting this above it off of that alone. That said though this one is probably my second favorite. Love Tombs too but I rarely listen to it in full tbh

What do you think of the EP with some tracks from this with Barnes on vocals instead? Need to revisit that since I've came back to this

I have to re spin that version Combus, and i understand the nostalgia about The Bleeding, that's one of my favorites too and actually the one that got me into CC, but i believe Fisher is the right guy for CC overall, he put them on the next level, the sound is more vicious imo

I revisited the Barnes era and it was aight to me for the most part, but then i played Corpsegrinder's debut and was like holy shit, i didn't remember this to be this good

Yeah Fisher was a great decision especially when you hear how Barnes sounds now. Can't imagine if he stayed tbh. Fisher just has a real power behind his growl. Love his stuff with PoP too

So difficult to rate this band imo. Barnes era albums always felt more cohesive/truer to the sound I enjoy so those first 4 are on top for me. Fisher era is pure quality though

Yeh, Barnes is basically done at this time, Fisher hits like a brick, just listen to that scream at the end of Monolith, it makes me "oof!" from excitement

After listening to Created to Kill I definitely prefer Vile to it. I do think it's one of Barnes best vocal performances though. I really dug his vocals quite a bit up until Haunted. It seemed like after that is really when they started to swan dive. Wish he didn't fry them because I do enjoy a decent amount of the riffs SFU has had over the years

I didn't think I needed more from these guys than The Bleeding
