Definitely rules, Gyro.

Is 3 what you think now, or your updated rating?
|
| |
3 is what I thought when I relistened about 4 years ago. Back in hs this was a high 4.5 for me
|
| |
Always thought "Image of the Invisible" was one of their best songs, know I'm really in the minority there lol
|
| |
God damn, "Atlantic" is still so good.
|
| |
The bookends are both still so good, but a lot of this is weak. I think it fails hard at the post-hardcore bits, just sounds really weak and entry-level. "Atlantic" and "Music Box" are also really good

i hate to say it, but gyros right, but that can only mean one thing...
...every album and band and song before Vheissu must be awful.

"The bookends are both still so good, but a lot of this is weak. I think it fails hard at the post-hardcore bits, just sounds really weak and entry-level. "Atlantic" and "Music Box" are also really good"
that's like the four worst songs here nice job
|
| |
Oh come on, the post-hardcore shit is so weak, maybe only passable in "For Miles"
|

Compare it to At The Drive-In or Gospel or Hot Cross. Dustin's voice isn't fit for it at all. Thrice is much better suited as a pop/alt rock group

why would i compare it to at the drive-in or hot cross? they are nothing like this. illusion compares better to them and dustin had very different kinda vocals back then anyway
i agree that his voice doesn't fit in everything (and has been total garbage to begin with in the last few albums) but what he's doing here absolutely sounds like it belongs here

I feel like songs like "Stand And Feel Your Worth" have such weak payoffs because his screams are really mediocre, and the songwriting is tepid. A lot of filler on this thing imo. "Moths to Flame" is great tho, forgot to mention that one

whaaaat, stand and feel your worth is absolutely one of the greatest songs in their whole discography. we really are in completely different ends when it comes to this band lol

His screams are never average on this whaaat
|
| |
Lol it has good music and was one of my favourites for years but upon relistening it's way too drawn out, and the climax is incredibly weak compared to the ending of "For Miles" imo
|
| |
Meh the screams are weak af imo, especially after just listening to Diamond Eyes earlier this morning, this shit is like hard rock by comparison

you keep making these weird musical comparisons that make no sense whatsoever. the "screams" on this are what you'd most likely find on a post metal album, not atdi or hot cross or deftones album. dustin is a pretty boring clean vocalist, has always been, but his screams are on point here
|
| |
They just sound really generic to me, and I compare them to other post-hardcore bands because it's part of their genre and I think the genre has way more to offer. It probably is more akin to post-metal, but even then they're pretty basic sounding. He's not a great clean singer either but they compensate for it with beautiful melodies and strong choruses. Like... How do you not like Red Sky? Tf.

i like it, sure, but that's generic if you ask me
|
| |
I'm referring to their post-hardcore sound. Their softer more melodic stuff isn't exactly innovative but it's enjoyable. Just not feeling those weak ass screams.
Edit: lol misread your comment and thought you were mocking me
