maybe i'm just too far down the Tool Fan Rabbit Hole but idk are the lyrics that pretentious? they're serious and philosophical, sure, but does that always equate to pretentiousness? i've never gotten this criticism, i genuinely want to know why people think the lyrics are pretentious other than "they just are"

They’re not as bad as folks make out, “weave my allegorical elegy” is pretty egregious though

production on this drags it down. still great songs though. for instance i prefer the live birmingham version of invincible to the studio version. its so raw live. especially the ending

Hearing some of those tracks live definitely helped me appreciate the album more.
I also think the vinyl sounds a lot better than any of the streaming I've heard, which is to be expected of course, but still moreso than usual I'd say. P much the only way I want to run that album top to bottom anymore.

The album does still have guitars if you listen to it on vinyl, I'm so sry.
|

this album without guitars would be a viable 2.5
and without vocals maybe even a 3
Tool should duke it out with Metallica for washups with half their members as a net liability

"Tool should duke it out with Metallica for washups with half their members as a net liability"
You should duke it out with some other shitty staff member to get the vote for staff with the worst opinions/album ratings lol.

lol tool

literally the only users on this site seething at my taste are tool or bizkit burnouts, and the only member of staff unfortunate enough to rep both those things is unbullyable
if you wanna spectate staff top trumps over any of the shitty metal albums you care enough about to whether the weapons-grade indifference to your site presence and bother posting here over, their threads are up + vicious

It's shameful, having the occult knowledge that Tool are the greatest band of all time. I could pretend I have a mature taste (like Havey) but enjoying Tool gives away my realness, uff.
You won't see me defending this band, they're fking terrible artists, it just happens that everybody else makes embarrassingly mediocre music compared to them.

"i like this band but I get that they suck cause others say so and others influence my opinion so I can't defend them but I still like them"

Upon the receipt of what I assumed to be a compilation of the greatest classics of Monteverdi rendered upon the harpsichord, I was most fortunately surprised by an error committed by the imbecilic shipping and handling personnel who issued my delivery. Upon placing the iridescent disc into the compact disc playing-apparatus I felt myself assaulted by what I immediately perceived to be the most vulgar cacophony of the electrical fluid I had ever heard.
