This thread is why aliens don't come visit us. It's rather disappointing.

"This honestly might be the most divisive album ever lol. You either hate it or love it. 2 it or 4 it there's not to much middle ground reception"
I mean they're already the internet's most divisive band and then 14 years or whatever after releasing some of their most radio friendly material on 10k days they released an album with absolutely 0 hits, and even for people who don't care about hits I can't say that it's like...peak post metal or anything. But it's a sea of grooves with a few nice peaks and valleys that mostly sounds like Tool and I'm happier with this than a 10 track album of Vicarious-es. 7empest was a pretty nice surprise too with how much it calls back to some Aenima era sounds. Also the vinyl in good headphones and hearing some of the tracks live definitely helped elevate it above mid territory for me.
I gotta respect giving it a shot and throwing 2 points at it even over just being like "lol tool sucks 0.5"
The climax of Descending hitting live while the acid is really kicking in and the light show is absolutely just pummeling your vision is really an experience I can't recommend enough.

As is often the case with any Tool record, some - if not most - negative comments can come across as concealed frustrations. Take, for instance, Havey's attempt to portray himself as more intelligent (probably than he really is) by poking fun at the essence of the title track. However, one doesn't need to resort to LSD to comprehend that Tool lyrics surpass anything that his favorite faux-Christian parrot-like composers ever composed.
Regrettably, even Johnny appears to adopt a pretentious stance in this matter. Unlike Havey, who holds history in high regard (despite post-WW2 skepticism), Johnny, despite his ability as music critic to think long-term, in eons even, harbors a veiled frustration when critiquing Tool. If I had to follow my immense intuition, I'd say it stems from the nonsensical notion of "UK being better than US", leading him to vent his grievances needlessly.

And what causes you to vent your stupidity needlessly?

I don't think that user rating graph says 'most divisive album ever'... It's very nicely distributed.

Yeah nah idk about all that lmao, Tool lyrics are definitely some entry level mystical bullshit, but at the end of the day they're just rock lyrics and if you're looking for more out of them you're goofin'. They're fun to listen to w/ a grain of salt and sometimes can be a little clever but I'm not listening this band to fucking elevate my consciousness or something.
And one doesn't 'resort' to LSD in order to 'Comprehend' Tool, one simply takes LSD so they can feel like they're fucking zooming through magic laser space while a Tool song enters you through anus and then reverberates up your spine and out of your eyeballs.

The need to remind everyone that Tool lyrics are entry level fake mystical bullshit is equally annoying to trying to tell everyone they're super elevated and wise though.
