Still think that this has some of the most unispired guitar work ever by the band. No matter how many string he uses, songs like Locked club is just plain boring. So is the first half of my mind is a mountain. How many time will he use those same riffs? Also safe is the apt word for this album.

And while i am at it, what is cut hands if not a nu metal song, something that they have been avoiding this tag for years on end? Now that nu metal is popular again? For what? To remind people that they were around or that they can still make that kind of songs? I don't know, this record, for me, is Deftones for the Tiktok crowd and fan service for fan service only which is pointless for any band to do. Just wish they would expirement more. Still they delivered a good record cause they are incapable of making something like plain bad.

And don't get me wrong. They are one of my top 5 bands and I love them to death and been a fan since 97.

Doesn't do anything new necessarily, but I stick to my belief that it's the album's consistency that makes it so good to me compared to other Deftones albums.

don't think the band, or this album, is any kind off sell out

I never said that they did. I'm just saying that it's weird. Maybe it's them taking the piss i don't know. Look, the band doesn't owe me or anyone else anything and long may they continue to rock our world. I'm sorry if i came across like a entitled Karen lol. The only thing or attitude that i hate when it comes to music is gatekeeping or purism. I'm one of those people that i don't mind if a band sell out. If the end product is good, who the fuck cares?

Gore is good. Could’ve been great with better sonics.

Well I've read that the band has had a sort of resurgence because of the use of their music on Tik Tok (idk shit beyond that as I'm not on tt) but I certainly don't think that they wrote any song to be used as social media bait or whatever. Also, just reading some of Chino's lyrics, it wouldn't surprise me if they are, in so many ways, plugged into the social media pipeline and their creative ideas may reflect certain influences of that culture. I dunno but "cut hands" doesn't sound like any real deviation from their overall sound.

I like Gore a lot, it seems to get a lot of hate but aside from a couple of weak tracks I don't really think it is bad or any weaker than anything else in their catalogue.
This album is awesome - but my favourite out of the lot would probably still be Diamond Eyes, with White Pony just behind.

Re: Everville2205:
Cut hands is just deftones through and through. You can call it nu metal if you want, i get what you mean, but its more just purely deftones than it is nu metal if you know what i mean.
I think it transcends that label.
I can see your viewpoint if you came to the album hoping for experimentation etc that some of it may generate those feelings for you that you have argued.
I had no expectations and just think it's their best album from start to finish.

i tag deftones as nu metal because nu metal is good and deftones is good
if deftones were bad i would tag them as progressive metal or alt metal or metalgaze
but they're good, so they're nu metal

Older Songs blew up on t/t, that’s how that shit started. Way after the songs/albums were released. Songs like Cherry Waves, Entombed, Sextape etc. They definitely aren’t intentionally catering to that crowd. It just happened.i don’t use Tt at but i do have an 18 year old and 13 year old daughter. When they blew up on tt, my 18 year old told me about it. Funny thing is that she had already been a fan since she was just a child, as I’ve always played their albums constantly in the car with her.
I have mixed feelings but ultimately I’m glad. They’ve always deserved more success and accolades than they received so I’m glad they’re blowing up like this. What I don’t like is how expensive their shows are now, playing only bigger venues now and a lot of the crowd demographics

Listened to this again this weekend (it's my driving music for when I have tasks to run). Literally just start from song 1 and play it through. It's comfort food at this point.

Ya I will forever treasure seeing them in some dogshit backwood ballroom in Kansas. Incredible show. Steph talked to me about flat earth beforehand so he’s been a loon for at least a decade now

Probably my 3rd or 4th time ranking these in this thread alone, and I think it might be slightly different every time lol.
I do know that I initially had PM over SNW, and possibly over KNY, but now that the dust has settled a bit, I think that’s its final placement.

Haha yeah I think he’s always been out there, but it’s been a constant “progression” (regression) over the years. I miss seeing them in smaller venues man.
