This sort of discussion is what sputnik is all (should be) about. Much more interesting and constructive then individuals ranking deftones or ripping each other for daring to hold differing opinions

What about labeling CoL pre Salvation atmospheric sludge and CoL post Salvation post metal? Is that a good way to sum it up genre wise?

what about Salvation lol
this did drop off some of the sludge but Eternal Kingdom and Vertikal switched it up again

I completely agree, although some of the stupid arguments people have can get entertaining to watch.
As for CoL, I've only listened to this and their debut(what a thick, sludgey album, damn). I'm about to listen to The Beyond.

The Beyond beats their debut by a good mile. They go less hardcore punk in approach and up the sludge.
and as for good discussions, I'm seeing more "wow what good discussions" more than actual inputs here tbh. more shitposting goes on than sharing ideas cuz lot of users are either afraid of not adding anything useful or are purely incapable. if you're truly passionate about the music you like, then it wouldn't hurt to explore more about or of it.

Did you end up listening to The Galilean Satellites? Was your jaw on the floor by the end of the first song?

Well Salvation included in what I would call post metal to clarify

Salvation is a true mix of the two definitions; they start twinkling but go just as hard as the last album. You can't really divided like you didn't.

I guess I can find a synched version on YT, but I'm not counting on the quality being all that good.

Alright, good idea, thanks.
So what do you guys think the most post metal like CoL album is? The one that follows the definition closest?

Say you were to describe Salvation to a seasoned music fan that hasn't heard it. How would you describe it?

FoS. To me it is this. Lots of them twinkles and the sludgy riffs without the industrial influence that came with later albums.

Well I haven't heard that one yet, but it all depends on how seasoned they are? Do they already like post metal? Do they know nothing about the genre?

I agree Sniff, this has the immense atmosphere and sludge with all the layered and textured sounds.

good discussion to read. I wonder if Relinquished would consider often labeled post black bands like altar of plagues or wolves in the throne room post metal or not since the abscence of sludge
