Both HV and TWFM are sublime. Peak moments for this band.

As Steve Hyden ( celebration rock podcast) tweeted ; “Trouble Will Find Me slowly emerging as the best National album is the most National thing ever.“

The first few spins of TWFM, I didn't think it would ever go above a 4.0. It's now a 5. For me it was the ultimate National grower

TWFM has warmed on me a lot since release but I still can't vibe Fireproof or Heavenfaced as much as the rest of the album
|

exactly my thoughts @Butkuiss
Also that opening stretch of Boxer is unstoppable.

I can't tell if my feelings about HV are bc I listened to it waaaay too much years back, or because it's their muddiest production job.

HV is like their brightest sounding album, TWFM sounds a good deal muddier imo

Album Rating: 4.0
Nah HV is definitely their murkiest album. TWFM is much brighter.
|

Alligator
Boxer
Sad Songs
HV
The rest I don't care for.

One says brightest. One says murkiest. Haha

TWFM sounds like a thick murky soup of depression and one of their most difficult to sit through from beginning to end out of all their albums. The production style really works for some of the tracks, and for others not so much. HV and SWB sound much brighter and clearer to me, and are both better for it imo
|
| |
I've found them to be pretty depressing in general. But with many moments of a sort of agonizing beauty. Production aside.

Yeah for sure, but they're all pretty different. Then this sort of combines the murky slowness of TWFM with a brighter indie pop style, and it's a weird clash.
|
| |
It's definitely a strange clash. Still haven't been able to sink my teeth into it.
