Looking over the 2018 charts reminds me of two things:
1. This is in close competition with Hop Along for my AotY.
2. That goddamn slug album is still in the annual top 5. What a fucking embarrassment this site's death metal community is.

'That goddamn slug album is still in the annual top 5. What a fucking embarrassment this site's death metal community is.'
Why is that embarrassing?
I was going to listen to this at work, but it was significantly more visceral & heavy than I was expecting, think I'll wait for a more suitable opportunity.

hmm...
First, Weiss was raised by both a Jewish father and Muslim mother, although both converted to the Sufi faith. He has also studied religion extensively at a university level, and the group's music has always made lyrical allusions to multiple religions but they've never praised/professed or otherwise attempted to convert listeners.
Also, and I know/hope you didn't mean it this way, but saying "Does this band hate the gays?" followed by "I read they were Christian rock" seems disappointingly narrow-minded coming from you. You wouldn't want to stereotype/pidgeonhole an entire group of people based on a small percentage of its population.

There's certainly truth to it, don't get me wrong - there's a handful of bigots out there who use religion as a defense for their refusal to evolve - but for some reason it rubbed me the wrong way. Perhaps I got too defensive because I was brought up in a religious household but also pride myself on being open-minded and progressive.

You should listen to Fig with a Bellyache sometime BoneyKing - actually, no, you definitely shouldn't.
But, read this lyric from it.
"That dog below our waist aroused
When arms embraced the pretty gals
It came much more as a surprise
It happening when I hugged the guys."
I don't know if the entirety of the band is christian, but Aaron is evidently the kind of christian who would have massive problems and differences with the evangelical christian movement of the United States (as would that socialist Jesus if he were around today - but I digress).
I don't know if we can confidently say he's bisexual. He's been an adamant asexual after a questionably-real youthful tryst until his recent marriage. The lyric above could just as easily been a real attempt at empathy.
I wouldn't make such concrete judgements about Aaron so easily.
(Says the guy whose done nothing but psycho-analyze him within his reviews for the past five weeks.)

This might not answer all your questions but it's from 3 years ago and provides a great deal of context.

as a Christian myself, I can understand what you mean King, but yea, don’t generalize because it’s not true for everyone

As much as it pains me to agree with that, I do. I have many close friends in America who are quite discriminatory, but I do the best I can not to do that because it just straight up annoys me. Oh well, we can't expect everyone to be perfect so...

Easy to make assumptions, but still wrong to do so (not implying you were saying that it is obviously). Take any group of people and you can find both positive and negative general associations, but every person should be judged in a case-by-case instance. I know some Christians who are the most open-minded and accepting people I've ever met -- others, quite the opposite. It's no better or worse to assume a Christian hates gays than it is to make assumptions about other people based on race or sexual preference. We're all just people, and that's it.
