Imo when you get into modern metal for the first time and that's the only metal you listen to for a while, it is hard to work backwards and appreciate the classic metal releases.

That's exactly what happened to me (working backwards) there's definitely no way I get the full affect of hearing the old school stuff before the new stuff, or better yet, hearing when it came out!
Like I have albums from random bandcamp bands with higher ratings than the stuff I mentioned, it really is kinda ridiculous.
But that suits me =D
