i think basically what happened is pinkerton was not well received upon release and since rivers so openly displayed his soul on that album he felt a lot of shame about it



in retrospect people fucking love it though, its probably praised slightly higher than blue overall (i like metal-tinged garage rock of blue more than the more emo-y pink but its a classic too)
