Don't think it's that it's not lively, more so it is just humourless. Which is understandable given that most of the songwriting was built off of a near-death experience, but part of Queens' appeal for some people was their charm. They could craft artsy and melancholic pieces here and there, but they were still able to laugh at themselves. Here, it's pretty despondant across the board.

I love how fresh this sounds. I dunno if other QotSA albums are like this (from what I remember, they really weren't) but this just seamlessly fuses so many different styles and bakes one deliciously layered cake
