Had to give this a full relisten after a couple years in honor of its being put on Spotify and I gotta say I still have a hard time really enjoying it. Just don’t find the textures and tones that great a lot of the time and the songwriting is weaker than their older material. “She Found Now” is the only one I love, “New You” and “In Another Way” are great too though.

with the exception of maybe three songs, Loveless has remarkably lazy/plain songwriting, which tbh I respect because it committed so hard to showcasing dat atmosphere and aesthetic. the backend of this is in a similar ballpark, but for the most part the songwriting here is so much more developed - first three tracks (esp Who Sees You) in particular are so much more dynamic in the way they lay down the band's signature elements, every part of those tracks feels so much more developed and engaging it its structure/pacing than most of Loveless.



the closest writing parallel I can think of from their other work is You Never Should, which is one of their strongest tracks for similar reasons. if you don't vibe the tones, fair shit, and you could probs make an argument that YMR has the strongest writing of any mbv release, but otherwise I find that take incredibly confusing?
