nick is incredible [2]

Still need to give Bon Iver a proper listen. My first listen was years ago and I think the vocals are what I couldn't get into.

This album is amazing. I'm not as big on For Emma as everyone else is, but that one is still solid too.

For Emma is a little more "bare bones", right? More the guy-and-his-guitar type of indie folk? From what I've read, this one seems like it's more dense from an instrumentation standpoint.

Yes I'd agree with that for sure.

The vocals take getting used to but it's worth it. Both this and For Emma are brilliant, though I slightly prefer this.

yeah there is instrumentally way more going on in this album. i prefer the more stripped down style of for emma

The songwriting on this album is just brilliant. I have way more of a connection with For Emma and like it more, but I think this might be objectively better

I agree with you there definitely, I think it flows MUCH better than For Emma as well

I can totally see where you're coming from saying it's overproduced but it doesn't bother me much, I love how much is going on in each individual song

I really, really need to listen to this. Considering I love folk, it's pretty embarrassing that I have yet to hear Bon Iver and Tallest Man On Earth and only recently checked Sufjan...

It's OK, Boney. I'm right there with you. I would say I enjoy a lot of folk music, but I still have not given a proper listen to any of the artists you listed.

Not saying they're essential, but they're certainly relevant and worth having an opinion on from what I can tell.

OK. They do seem to be more of the contemporary, "indie" persuasion, but do they take much influence from any of the folk greats?

I haven't listened to a whole lot of Sufjan, but yeah I wasn't very impressed with what I did hear.

the new Sufjan album is pretty boring imo. I enjoyed listening to it somewhat, but had no desire to listen to it again. I much prefer his not stripped down sound
