Im assuming so many people love this album because they heard it before panopticon came out? Idk, having only got into these guys around 2010 myself, this stands as a really good album but not particularly impressive when stacked against everything else they did after.
Still a heckin gooder tho!!

this one just presents a mountain of feels that panopticon has never been able to compete w/ for me. I mean panopticon crushes and is also a 5 but this is wayyyy ahead of it for both of them being 5's for me.
plus this has false light, carry and from sinking

this feels so much more 'raw' and organic than their later stuff which is slightly over produced but still 4+
it finds the perfect equilibrium between crushing abrasiveness and tranquil beauty... it also has this natural flow to it which echoes the sea imo
The climaxes here hit harder than any of their later material besides one or two from Panopticon and its a fairly seminal album in pm so i think 5ing it is justified.
I've also listened to it over 500 times and I could quite easily play it again now and become enthralled in it again so there's that too
