…he might be right.
I think Lesson Learned and Take Her Out are the weak links but everything else here is fucking amazing.
Layne was just an insanely good vocalist. Idk, I’ve said it before, but as much as I love Jerry I wish he would take a backseat when it comes to vocals and really let William go off. That really could’ve pushed this record into goat status imo

Jar Of Flies and Dirt easily clear this. The rest is more debatable. But I fucking love this album and Take Her Out is underrated, I love that track

Black Gives Way To Blueballs the way this record spends its entire runtime keeping the listener waiting for Cantrell to get out of the way and let DuVall take the lead on vox

Completely agree. I wish Will would take the lead way more. Last of My Kind is an insanely good performance from him.

No. It's a funny quip but you're completely wrong on this one

No I get it tbh, this album would be even better if William took the lead on a lot of these songs. Jerry being so prominent always made this feel like a continuation of Jerry’s solo shit rather than Alice… which is fine because his solo material is great.

Dirt and self titled are miles better imo, and so is Jar of Flies. I’d put this above Facelift though. But those three albums are all stone cold classics/masterpieces.

Private Hell is fucking great. I swear I had this at a 4. And looking at the 5s I see, maybe I should give this a re-listen. Been a few years.

Better than S/t and about on par with Facelift imo.

Better than self titled? That's an excellent sludgey dirge

As is this, at times.

For sure, but it’s no self titled. Rarely does anything here hit the heights of Slidge Factory, Grind, Frogs, Again, Head Creeps, Heaven Beside Yiu etc

Ah, but some do.
