Disliking Opeth on Sputnik is punishable by death.

"Rather bland"

Call them crappy if that's what you think, but to say they are bland (which means not unique, I'm assuming you didn't know that via your use of the word) is pretty much proof you don't know your ass from your face.

ive tried really hard to get into Opeth.

i find it confusing that for a lot of people to 'get' Opeth. My opinion, Opeth seems like a band that is EASY to get into, their sound is pretty broad, and there seems to be enough for anyone to like. However, i can see why some may not LIKE or LIKE THEM AS MUCH as sputnikians, but it definitely doesn't seem like a getting into thing.

^ I can see it. It took a few listens for me but not many. They have unusual song structures and odd chord progressions. If you aren't used to that sort of thing it can take some time. Nowadays, I'd probably have loved them on first listen. They've actually grown off me a little over the years now though.

this is the statement of the year haha. How can anyone not like Opeth? It completely boggles my mind.

Not as epic as some of their masterpieces, and is respectively on the low end of their works, but is an awesome album nonetheless and fully deserves a 4+ rating

i feel like the only person alive that doesn't "get" Opeth.
Talented as they are for some reason i just cant into them and this may sound troll(ish) but i dont get the fuss.
Anyone care to recommend a good album to see if i can get into them?
Thanks guys!

Pick up Blackwater Park or Still Life. Those 2 are the best, but BP is probably the most accessible. If you like more soft stuff though, Ghost Reveries is probably the most melodic.

BP? Will do!
Although i prefer my metal fast i am hoping to latch onto this band.
i have heard "Heir Apparent" and was quite impressed.
Thanks for the starting point TRM.

No prob, but really. If you were to ask about anyone on this site, they'd have probably said the exact same thing. Those two albums are near perfection in many peoples' eyes.

Check out the song "The Grand Conjuration" from ghost reveries if you like heir apparent.

I am so psyched to see them in NYC in April. They are playing all of Blackwater Park and some "exclusive" songs, whatever that means. I'm just happy they're playing BP.

I still think My Arms, Your Hearse is their best. Blackwater Park is a close second. Still Life rules, but is a little bit overrated IMO.
