The most hyped modern metal album since Terminal Redux. Unfortunately I don't see the hype.

@Wildcard As a newer Deafheaven fan myself, I think this album is more readily accessible than Sunbather, which makes it more appealing as a whole. It's a wonderful blend of everything they've accomplished so far as a band melded into one magnum opus.
(I just tried typing like three more different explanations for this opinion and deleted them all because they sucked, so take this statement as you want lol)

Calling Terminal boring out of all things is wild to me lol. I get some people not digging it, but it's anything but boring.

Boring isn't the word I'd use, but I don't really like it lol.

Yea I wouldn't call Vektor boring but also not really for me. Kind of just too busy and I prefer my thrash to be on the punkier side

I love Terminal Redux to death and I love this as much, so I can absolutely see the hype for both albums. Terminal Redux is actually still a Top 5 albums from the 2010s for me

I just don’t get the hype. Maybe seeing that live would have given the Blood Incantation effect, too bad he beats women

I like this album fine but it doesn’t reach the level of me obsessively listening that I expected from all the hype. For me it honestly drags a little but I can’t figure out a reason. I just tune out at parts and find it hard to stay engaged by it the whole way through.
If I was forced to choose only two Deafheaven records, it would easily be Sunbather and New Bermuda for me. New Bermuda has always felt a bit underrated to me. I’m very likely wrong on some level but I don’t care. I love that album.

Surprised you don’t like this more hawks, it’s basically just sunbather + the fight riffs of new Bermuda + some experimental interludes

Yeah this easily beats New Bermuda for me and I liked that album a lot.
Garden Route still isn’t all that great and it’d be a better album without it imo, I’ll bash my fucking head against a wall if they play that instead of one of the other 8 amazing tracks here

they played it when i saw them but they played like 80% of the album
