Listened to this on the drive to work this morning.

WTF happened to this band.

I don't even care about the lack of growls. These songs just ... suck..

It took me a couple years to accept Opeth being what they are now. I actually liked Pale Communion when it came out, and in due time I liked Heritage as well, despite my hatred for it when it first came out. So I was ready to like Sorceress when it came out, in fact I really wanted to like it. I still don't think it's a bad album... it just isn't a great one either. There's nothing particularly memorable on it for me. Nothing sticks out.

"Sorceress, for me, is old hat. It's a lovely record, but it's back 'there.' I'm not lingering on it because it's old now. I'm not lingering on this record as being a beacon of hope for anything — it's just what we did then, and I'm hoping next time we're going to do something different, and I hope, something twisted. Nothing necessarily great, but twisted at least." Akerfeldt about the new record

He says he wants to take a year to rest and spend time with his family. Maybe it will give him the right inspiration. See you at "Maybe the end of… or mid-2019".

Also man I love The Ward

Both bonus tracks are so good.

His statement sounds like a pseudo-confession that the band didn’t really push themselves for this. Really interested to hear what they’ll do next. I’m happy that he wants to do something weirder.

Axe's performance is the highlight of the past two albums

It's the highlight of Heritage too (his best performance) but there are other aspects on that album that are good too so I guess it stands out less in that respect.

Nah he's way better on Heritage. I mean I dig his performance on Watershed but he's on a whole new level on Heritage.

Yeah Heritage is one of the best drumming performances I’ve heard from any record this decade. Killer bass lines too
